Custom Homes

I’m Thomas Coy, the founder of Coys Constructions, a custom home-building company specializing in passive house construction.

For over 12 years, I managed everything myself, working seven days a week with grueling 12-16 hour days. My nights were consumed by quoting while my days were spent on-site.

I had no clear systems, processes, or filing methods—everything was in my head. Like many builders, I took on any job, believing I was making money, only to realise my efforts weren’t translating into the success I hoped for. I was doing everything but excelling at nothing, working harder but not smarter.

Transformation Through APB

Joining APB over seven years ago was a turning point for me. Through their business coaching and tools like the construction slot planner, I learned how to structure my business effectively.

APB taught me the value of my time, how to identify the right clients, and how to approach cash flow planning with confidence rather than hope. Instead of guessing at start dates or juggling multiple tasks poorly, I now operate with a clear plan and focus, ensuring quality and efficiency in every project.

Building the Right Team

One of the most impactful changes APB facilitated was helping me recognize my strengths and the importance of delegation.

Initially, I handled everything myself, but as the business grew, I realized I needed to hire people with complementary skills. Now, I have a dedicated team, including internal accounts, a project manager, and a client liaison. This team covers all critical touchpoints, delivering a full-service experience to our clients while freeing me to focus on the areas where I add the most value.

The APB Community and Results

The sense of community within APB has been invaluable.

Having access to a network of builders who understand my challenges, and often have solutions, has been a game-changer. With APB’s guidance, our top-line revenue has grown by 16.5 times, and I’ve achieved a sustainable work-life balance.

APB didn’t just provide tools and advice, they gave me a roadmap for long-term success. To other builders facing the same struggles, I can confidently say that APB will transform your business and your life.
